And a Happy New Year to Us All!

Umm . . . you can sure tell the holidays descended on me with a huge thud! Sheesh. I meant to update this blog weeks ago. What happened? Where did 2009 go? Did I miss something???

I hope I’m not the only one who’s time challenged. My brain tells me it’s only been a couple of days, while the calendar insists weeks or even months have passed by. Maybe it’s just that I have the attention span of a goldfish—you know: 5 seconds! Anyway, I hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving and Christmas. I sure did. And now it’s on to the New Year! A lot has been going on since the last time I posted, but since there’s too much to cram into one post, I’m going to spread the news out over the next week or so.

First and foremost is a new nonfiction project that will release through Journey Press early in 2011, Don’t Look Down by Debbie and Dick Church. Diane Moody is working with Debbie and Dick to write their story, which will include alternate chapters from Dick’s point of view as the husband of a cancer survivor. It’s going to be a tremendous resource and a huge encouragement for cancer survivors.

Debbie has been an oncology counselor for over 18 years throughout the Southeast. As a support services director at several oncology centers in Atlanta and Florida, she has counseled thousands of cancer survivors. She is the author of dozens of articles dealing with every aspect of this disease. Now she has become a survivor herself and has a greater understanding and awareness of the impact of cancer and treatment from both sides of the desk. She enjoys reading, cooking and being with family and friends.

As an ordained minister, Dick Church has served numerous churches in Tennessee, Florida, and Georgia over the past 25 years. He has written articles for church growth periodicals and has been a contributing author in books on church missions and outreach. Currently he is a national consultant for one of the largest mission agencies in North America. He is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys mountain climbing and hiking.

Dick and Debbie have two children, Scott and Mary Elizabeth. Scott is a graduate of West Point and is serving at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas. Mary is pursing an LPN degree at Ogeechee Tech in Statesboro, Georgia.

Please welcome Debbie and Dick to the Sheaf House team! We’re delighted to have them!

We’re also negotiating another major nonfiction project and hopefully will have details for you on that soon. And some of you know that Joy had to have emergency surgery just before Christmas and is facing more surgery in the next few weeks. Please be in prayer for her as she heals and regains her strength.

As soon as this holiday hangover buzz clears out of my brain, I’ll have a bunch of other news for you too. Lots of things are bubbling, and Joy and I are thrilled and hanging onto our seats for dear life as the Lord continues to open doors and pour blessings on this little endeavor!

We wish you all a most blessed and joyous New Year!

As a cancer survivor who struggled for years to emerge from chemo fog, I'm thrilled you are publishing this book, Joan. Have a blessed New Year... and I hope you and I get to see each other in this coming year and make that journey together in Sept!
